Now to be fair, there are reviews from people on tripadvisor who gave him and his services 4 and 5 stars, but these were all before August of 2024. Something had apparently gone down and we have heard of things, but it is not our place to add to any rumors or stories, whether true or not.
You do your own research but know this, we still have not relieved a refund and do not recommend booking any excursions with this man.
Greg Lacle, the person we made contact with in May of 2024 to pay for a 2 person, 2 tank dive and paid via Zelle $200 was a ghost the day before our “dive trip” on the 30th of January, 2025.
We were on a cruise ship and attempted to get ahold of him via WhatsApp and email and he never responded to either. I have my instagram account, found his “business” instagram account, at 0901 I sent him a text and asked him “are you open for business???? He responded back at 2241 that evening with….
As you can see, I must have struck a nerve because he never responded and didn’t answer my calls.
At 0800 I called using the instagram call feature and got no answer, twice.
We then grabbed our 70 pound dive bag, our dry bag and hauled it off the cruise ship, hailed a taxi, paid $10 to get to the dock where his boat was at. He never showed and when talking to another guy doing equipment maintenance on his fishing boat, he said that Greg, nor anyone else had been at the boat in at least two weeks.
We gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited for 45 minutes and still he was a no show. We even asked another local to call his number and it came up disconnected.
We grabbed our heavy dive bag, hailed another cab and went back to the ship.
Then there was a new voicemail from Greg (because my insta didn't have internet on the island without WiFi).
Below is the actual voicemail, below it a transcription of that voicemail.
Kip, what's up man? I emailed Jonathan yesterday and told him the boat is not working. I can do shore dives. I'm game. We can do two cool shore dives if you want. It's a pretty easy entry. One's a little wreck and the other's a big reef. So that's possible.I'm still looking for the payment. Let me check with the account again. Did you pay full or did you pay half? Please let me know and I'll confirm with the account. We'll see what we do, alright?
"We paid in full for two tanks for two divers. We waited at the boat this morning for 45 minutes, hauled our gear back to the ship and then received your voicemail.
John never communicated with you via email and even still he never received one from you through any other means about the boat not working.
At this point, please Zelle back to Johnathan his payment in full for a refund.
Thank you"
This guy had an excuse for everything and when he says that he sent John an email, nothing ever showed up, not even in the spam folder.
Hey, kid, what's up, man? Hey, that's very sad.I have Anne Jonathan's email here from yesterday. Jonathan still saying dive in tomorrow. I replied to him. I don't know if he received it. That's very, very strange. Um, let me see my sent stuff. Yes, I sent it to him yesterday, 3 p.m., 3:16 p.m.So I will have to sell your money back. Give me a couple of days to do it, man, because, um, my contact who has the cell, she cannot send the money back. I have to ask her.Um, what we can do is PayPal. If you have a PayPal account, send you the money back through PayPal. Please let me know, man. I'm so sorry for this.
I told him PayPal will be fine and sent him Johnathan's QR code for his account., he replied with "ok" at 15:16 Friday.
Still nothing at 06:58 Saturday morning so I sent "Still waiting on that refund, thank you'
He left a third voicemail on my insta account...
This guy had an excuse for everything and when he says that he sent John an email, nothing ever showed up, not even in the spam folder.
Hey, Kip, what's up, man? I cannot refund right away, man. You gotta give me a couple of days because it's been very tough. So, um... And I have to do it through PayPal, too, so give me a couple of days for that, please.
We gave him until Sunday and we still received no new messages or calls, and especially no deposit into the PayPal account. So I wrote back to him this...
"Greg, we will give you until the morning of February 9, 2025 to get us our refund due to us. If we do not receive it, we will be going onto all possible social media platforms and travel websites posting our review of how this experience went down."
So here we are... it is even way past the deadline we gave him built not as an ultimatum but as a choice, and we still have not received our refund. We still hope to, at some point, but we also doubt it.
Dive Aruba is a very unreliable business. Greg Lacle is not to be counted on for anything, and do not under any circumstances pay in advance for any dive trips he "promises".
